People There are some very important people in Elgin. In 1894, the first post office was inside a man's house named Mr. Jeffers. It was a one-man postal service. He would ride on horseback, house to house, carrying mail. Dr. Watson was a doctor a long time ago. He would go to peoples' houses on horseback, and he would give them the medicine.
