Located at the foothills of the Blue Ridge Mountains in northeast Spartanburg County, South Carolina, Landrum is home to O.P. Earle Elementary School. Built in 1955, the school presently educates approximately 535 kindergarten through sixth grade students. There are a number of different things that make O.P. Earle a special place. It is the only school in South Carolina to win 3 prestigious awards in 1 year. During the 1998-1999 school year, O.P. Earle was named as the Exemplary Reading program in South Carolina by the International Reading Association, a second year Exemplary Writing School by the South Carolina Department of Education, and the Literary Spot Award winner by the Reading Recovery Council of South Carolina.

Special thanks and recognition go to 6 third grade students who worked diligently on the Dinosaurs in SC project.
