Major General Steve Siegfried
A Strong Leader for South Carolina Retired Army Major General Steve Siegfried is now South Carolina’s Homeland Security director. He started his job in October and he started it with a lot of enthusiasm. He said, “It’s a journey we’re going to take everyday. We’re going to manage that journey and not let it manage us.” Siegfried used to be an enlisted soldier, but then he ended his career with a lot of high positions like running the Pentagon’s War Room. General Siegfried says being in charge of SC’s Homeland Defense is more than a job. He is again serving his country as best as he can. He says about September 11, “I was at home and I would tell you that I wept. It was a horrible, horrible day. I’m still angry, very, very, angry, but resolved and determined that we here in this state are going to do what we need to do to make sure that nobody’s changed our lifestyle. If we want to change our lifestyle, we will, but nobody else will.” General Siegfried has a very important job. The Homeland Defense goal is to detect, prepare, prevent, protect, and respond to anything to do with terrorists. South Carolina and every other state needs a good Homeland Defense leader and lucky for South Carolina, we have General Siegfried.
