12 Scottish families left the Independent Church (Circular Church) of Charles Towne in 1731, and started the First (Scots) Presbyterian Church of Charles Towne. The present building was built in 1814. The church recently received a bell from England made in 1814 to replace the bell the church gave to make cannons and cannonballs for the confederate.
