Clinton Info
Clinton was founded
in 1894 by Noah A. Crockett and Reverend
WM.. Robinson. Clinton was found on 4 acres of land donated by Captain
W.L. Roddey and Captain L.M. Davis. But when Clinton was founded
it wasn't called Clinton Jr. College like today, but it was called Clinton
Normal and Industrial College.
Clinton is a
Methodist institution located on Crawford Road in Rock Hill, South Carolina.
This college is not only a Methodist institution, but it is sponsored by
he A.M.E Zion Church. This 2 year college was named for the late
Bishop I.C. Clinton of Lancaster, South Carolina of the A.M.E Zion Church.
Bishop Clinton was a lifetime friend of the school and a promoter of education
in the upper part of the state. Mr. Clinton's college began with
3 teachers and 25 pupils, although today the school has more than 100 to
225 students (majority came from York and adjacent counties).
