There is much history of the Peoples National Bank of Rock Hill, South Carolina. There are early accounts stating that it was chartered by the state of South Carolina on February 15, 1906. The first president of the institution, L. C. Harrison, wasn't actively involved in the administration of the affairs of the Peoples Bank & Trust Company because of his active duty with the bank of Lancaster. His reputation as an able banker did, however, contribute to the Peoples popularity and earnings. In May of 1909 when its national charter was issued, the institution became known by its present name, The Peoples National Bank of Rock Hill. The official staff was then enlarged as well as the Board of Directors. T.L. Johnston was made President, J. B. Johnson and Sidney Friedheim the vice presidents. The Peoples Bank & Trust Company occupied quarters in the old Rock Hill Livrary Building until June 10, 1910 when it moved into the Peoples National Bank Building in the middle of the block on Main Street, its present home. Following the death of T. L. Johnston in 1933, C. L. Cobb was elected president of the bank with John R. London Vice president. Before there was a mall or a Belk the building was a landmark. With dozens of offices upstairs it was Rock Hill's third bank and one of tits prime business seats. Through many locations and changes, the Peoples National Bank is a historical building with much respect from those who have watched it grow, and those who still do business there.
