On January 17,
1781 at Cowpens South Carolina, a fight broke out between General Nathanael
Green, of the American rebels, with his band of Virginia riflemen and Banastre
Tarleton, of the British Redcoats.
The Americans
had put half of an army on each side of General Cornwallis in a surrounding
type form. General Cornwallis tried to foil this by sending troops under,
the command of Banastre Tarleton, against General Nathanael Green, one
of the half-armies, and his riflemen from Virginia. The two forces
had a small skirmish and the British ended up losing the Battle of Cowpens.
