Edward Rutledge was one of South Carolina's representatives to the First Continental Congress in 1775. Edward was easily perceived as a vocal and steady advocate of many liberties for the colonies. Rutledge was the youngest person to approve of the Declaration of Independence and sign it. During the American Revolution the British considered Edward Rutledge as a danger to cause rebellion. He was captured and sent to St. Augustine, Florida to be held prisoner in 1780. Edward Rutledge never fluctuated in his stand against tyranny. Rutledge would become Governor of South Carolina and one of the most conspicuous and imperious leaders in America. Edward's former Charleston residence is now The Governor's House Inn.
