The King George Inn is 200 years old and is a "Charleston Historic House." It was about 1790 when the Inn was born. The inn is named the "Peter Freneau House." It was named after a well-known Charleston journalist and co-owner of the Charleston City Gazette. Freneau was of Huguenot descent and his brother Phillip Freneau was called the "Poet of the Revolution." Peter Freneau was also a ship owner, merchant, and Jeffersonian politician. Peter lived in the house for many years. The inn was built with all rooms having hardwood floors and original eight foot oak doors. The inn is also a Federal style house and contains many architectural moldings and antiques.
